Palm Beach County Scouting closed in person till July 1

Dear Gulf Stream Council Scouting Families & Volunteers,

Social Distancing has now become a way of life for us all. We are experiencing Scouting from the confinements of our homes, digital screens, and backyards through virtual meetings, activities, and campouts.  This is our new temporary normal for us to ensure that we are all safe.

Yesterday, the Governor of Florida announced plans to reopen the state. This plan did not include Palm Beach County, as it is one of the few Florida counties impacted the most by the virus.  So, for now, Scout units should continue virtual meetings, outings, and activities until further notice.

All district and council activities and events are postponed until July 1st. This includes Gulf Stream Council summer and day camps programs. Please check our Summer Camp  home page for up-to-date information and answers to many of your questions. Below is the new schedule for our summer activities.

July 1st to July 4th
Cub Scout Resident Camp
Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation

July 5th to July 11th
Scouts BSA Summer Camp Week 1
Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation

July 12th to July 18th
Scouts BSA Summer Camp Week 2
Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation

July 19th to July 25th
Law Enforcement Explorer Academy (unchanged)
Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation

July 27st to July 31st
Sailfish/Lighthouse Cub Scout Day Camp (unchanged)
Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation

We will work with the day camp directors in Indian River and Everglades Districts to reschedule their camps and will let you know those dates when we have them.

With the rapidly escalating health concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the decision to cancel or postpone our events was not made lightly. We are doing our part to try to limit the spread of the virus. The health and safety of our scouts, leaders, staff, and families is paramount.

We will be monitoring the situation as it continues to develop. We will also be updating our full list of cancelled, postponed, or virtual meetings on our website’s home page titled “List of Activity Changes due to COVID-19 for Gulf Stream Council” or visit www.GulfStreamcouncil.org/COVID19.

We are continuing to provide online digital programs to our scouts and they may register by clicking here
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to Scouting.

Yours in Scouting,

Terrence Hamilton

Camp Shands still shows that they are planning to operate their camps this summer as originally scheduled. Their latest update was dated April 20, 2020.

Sea Base’s last update was April 15, and they said they would be issuing something on May 1. Will post here as soon as we know anything.
