From the program director:
Hi Lynn,
Adventure Trail Scouts will have the opportunity to begin work on and even complete several merit badges while in the adventure trail program. I am going to copy below an excerpt of an article written by our Adventure Trail Director and I am also copying him on this email to answer any questions you may have about this FANTASTIC program!
I hope this helps to answer your questions and please let me know if I can be of further assistance! Thanks
Mike McLoughlin
Program Director
For the Adventure Trail Program we will have 2 overall groups for the week:
The First Group will comprise of the “younger” scouts. This will include the youth working on their Scout Rank through their Late Tenderfoot & Early 2nd Class Requirements at the time of Summer Camp.
The Second Group will comprise of the “older” scouts. This will include the youth working on their 2nd Class Requirements into their First Class Requirements towards the peak of Eagle, at the time of Summer Camp.
First Group’s Merit Badges:
With this group being comprised of the “Younger” Scouts, we have focused the Merit Badges around more of the fun Merit Badges with select Eagle Required Merit Badges such as:
Fingerprinting
Nature
First Aid*
Swimming*
Wilderness Survival
Pioneering
(Any Merit Badges with an * is an Eagle Required Merit Badge in this point in time)
Note: We can NOT guarantee the FULL completion of Swimming Merit Badge specifically at this time because we as a Staff have not fully reviewed the scheduling for that option yet
This Group will also be earning their Totin’ Chit as well as their Firem’n Chip throughout one point of the week (Granted they can safely demonstrate the needed requirements)
Second Group’s Merit Badges:
With this group being comprised of the “Older” Scouts, we have focused the Merit Badges around more of the “Serious” Merit Badges focusing on Eagle Required Merit Badges such as:
Emergency Preparedness*
Nature
First Aid*
Wilderness Survival
Pioneering
(Any Merit Badges with an * is an Eagle Required Merit Badge in this point in time)
This Group will be primarily completing their 2nd Class and First Class Rank Requirements throughout the week of camp. With the set up of the new requirements… this would mean that many partials for various Merit Badges will be completed with the Rank’s Advancement.
Goal for the Program:
With this Adventure Trail program, our goal is to ensure that each participating scout will leave with a wealth of scouting skills knowledge and even more. The programs’ various activities will lead the participating scouts to be able to properly complete an Outpost Hiking Trip planned for Thursday evening of camp with ALL of the Adventure Trail participants.
